ALFREDO CASTRO
CURRICULUM VITAE:
Born 1950 in Santiago de Chile. Resident in Umeå since 1972. Swedish citizen since 1976.
Student at Bellas Artes in Valparaiso 1966-68, painting and architecture.
Moved to Paris and pursued independent art studies and worked as a photographer at P. Valenzuela's advertising agency and as an assistant at Gallery Daniel Gervis.
Studied philosophy, photography and art history.
Worked as an editor for the culture magazine Hjärnstorm and freelanced as an art writer and lecturer.
Qualified art teacher in 1979.
Initiator and organizer of several symposia, including Konstkritik, Bildmuséet in Umeå with, among others, Ingela Lind and Ola Billgren, and 90s aesthetics also at Bildmuséet in Umeå, with the participation of, among others, Max Book and Göran Sonesson.
Organizer of the congress in art studies, "about the modern", (Umeå University, Idé history, Literary studies, etc.).
Formed in 1991 together with Hans Anders Molin, the art constellation Casmo Info.
AICA (international art critic association), art critic member.
A Semiotic Circle in another University, UmeŒ, created in 1977 with Anders Marner, was reinstated in 1994 by Alfredo Castro.

I have worked as an art teacher in Umeå municipality since 1979 and through my interest in media I have equipped the art department with a focus on photography, video, video editing and computer graphics.
In 1984-85, together with Kjell Owe Grönlund (Video and media teacher at the Teacher Training College), I worked out a model to be able to work with music videos in primary schools. As far as we know, this was pioneering work not only in the municipality but in the country as a whole. I have since then further developed this model and worked with it in my image teaching at school.
I have participated in the curriculum work at the visual arts teacher training center in Umeå. A couple of years ago. (80s).
I have not only worked with video, computer and photography during my tenure as an art teacher, but also as an active artist in the artist group Casmo Info. (A Castro / H A Molin) and also earlier, as can be seen from the rest of the merit list.
I worked as an artist in close contact with one of Sweden's most complete media companies, NRA-kopia, with whom I have a very intimate collaboration.
Has been editor of the culture magazine Hjärnstorm, half of the 80s.
