1994 Kombi-nacion imagen sueca
In 1989 I was invited by the Mexican artist Arnold Belkin to make an exposition of my work in Mexico City. Instead I suggested to Belkin to investigate the possibilities for making a group exibition in Mexico with Swedish artists. About a year later, än official invitation to arrange an exhibition of Swedish art arrived from the Mexican ministry of Culture and it's cultural agency INBA, ( instituto Nacional de Bellas Artens), and I was entrusted with the task of selecting the artists and writers participants in this project Combi-nacion, Swedish image.
The project was concerned with what is the Swedish, idiosyncratic mentality. As curator of this exhibition, I have chosen to provide a heterogeneous and broad spectrum of artists from the rich contemporary Swedish art world. In the time that has passed since the exhibition arrived the spirit of the times, the Zeitgeist, has been transformed. The conflict between cosmopolitanism and nationalism has become a pressing reality.
We, the organizers of this project Alfredo Castro and Hans Anders Molin, ( Casmo info) wish to extend a special thanks to the artists and writers represented and to CONACULTA, general dirección of cultural affairs of the Secretary of Foreign Relations. And it's cultural agency INBA, instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes, and museo Mural Diego Rivera in Mexico city.
A well as the artist Arnold Belkin and the writer Octavio Paz and as many other contributors of this big art proyect.
Alfredo Castro.
